About Us
Since 1974, The Englewood Group (TEG) and its affiliated family of companies have been active in the development, construction and property managment of affordable multi-family housing communities in both the Midwest and Southwest regions. To date, TEG has developed over 2,900 rental units throughout Indiana, Illinois and Arizona. In addition, we have teamed with more than sixteen (16) not-for-profit agencies in making 1,100 affordable housing units possible in their area of need.

The Englewood Group continues to focus on developing, constructing, and operating affordable apartment communities in both rural and metropolitan areas across the country. Using primarily the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program and other financing instruments available to the project, TEG remains steadfast in their commitment to quality, amenitized housing that meets the needs of our tenants and investors alike. Michael J. Surak | Founder of Englewood Development Company, Inc. (EDC), and Venture Design Group, LLC

Under his leadership, more than 2,900 units of rental housing and one commercial medical office facility have been developed, built and managed by EDC or an affililated company. Prior to forming EDC, he was active in commercial real estate and finance. Mr. Surak holds a degree in Economics from Milliken University.
Gina Dillman Hoskins, C.P.A. | Chief Financial Officer of the companies and President and Treasurer of Vasil Management Company, Inc. (VMC) & Housing Directions, LLC (HD)

Ms. Hoskins manages the day-to-day operations of all companies under The Englewood Group. Prior to joining TEG in 1998, she gained almost twenty years experience as a Manager/Certified Public Accountant for K.B. Parrish & Co., LLP. Ms. Hoskins specialized in real estate taxation and has worked with the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program since its inception. Ms. Hoskins is responsible for all aspects of construction and development for TEG, including new project feasibility and financing applications. Ms. Hoskins is a licensed Certified Public Accountant. Ms. Hoskins earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Indiana University, and is a current member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana CPA Society.
Julia Surak | Vice President of Operations

Ms. Surak leads the strategic direction and assists in the oversight of admiration of property management, development, accounting and compliance. Prior to joining the team in 2015, Ms. Surak was a Real Estate Asset Manager for 12 years in San Diego, California. Ms. Surak earned her Bachelors of Business Administration from Mount S. Joseph University.
Julie Tucker | Vice President of Asset Management for VMC

She has fourteen years of experience with the affordable housing community which includes accounting for LIHTC acquisition/rehabilitation properties, financial analysis of existing portfolios, and interaction with investors throughout the life of each project. Her certifications include National Compliance Professional (LIHTC), Assisted Housing Manager (HUD) and S.T.A.R. (USDA) designation. Ms. Tucker is also a voting board member of the Affordable Housing Association of Indiana. Ms. Tucker devotes the majority of time monitoring projects for compliance with state housing authorities and other programs and financial monitoring of property operations. Prior to joining VMC in 2001, she served as a financial executive in various capacities. Ms. Tucker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from University of Indianapolis.
Mary Compton | Chief Operating Office of VMC

Mary has over ten years of experience with affordable housing. Ms. Compton is also a licensed Realtor in Indiana and Arizona with a special designation of SRES, Senior Real Estate Specialist. Selling and custom building single family homes for over 20 years prior to working with VMC allowed Ms. Compton to gain the experience necessary to manage the over 60 properties currently in the portfolio. Her oversight of the property management operations of VMC and working closely with the individual sites enables Ms. Compton to stay closely connected to all the properties. Ms. Compton attended Indiana University.
Mervin Giles | Arizona Construction and Development Senior Property Manager

He joined Englewood Development Company, Inc. in 1999 after a 30 year career in construction and development. He holds an Arizona general contractor's license and is Englewood's point person for development construction matters in Arizona, where his experience is an asset from conception through project completion. He is also EPA-certified for lead renovation and repair. Mr. Giles has lived in Arizona since 1995 and currently resides in Scottsdale.
Brian R. Pozen, CGP | Vice President of Real Estate

Brian leads the oversight, coordination and management of the development, design, construction and maintenance of affordable housing for The Englewood Group as well as enhancing and building not-for-profit partner relationships. Since he joined the team in 2001, over 1100 LIHTC units have been awarded and completed, totaling over $115 million. Mr. Pozen has been recognized as a Certified Green Professional (CGP) by the National Association of Home Builders and provides energy efficiency consultant services for new and existing development. He is also an active member of the Urban Land Institute. Prior to 2001, Mr. Pozen worked for an Indianapolis architectural firm. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
